Overview

Quick X-rays, all bulk billed.

An X-ray image is produced when a small amount of radiation passes through your body and reaches a detector on the other side.

How easily X-rays pass through depends on the make-up and mass of the tissue. Bone contains calcium and doesn't let much radiation through, so it shows up white. Your lungs are filled with air and let nearly all X-rays through, so they appear black.

All general X-ray services are bulk billed at GIG Radiology.

Please note

Could you be pregnant?

Please tell the radiographer before your scan if there is any possibility that you could be pregnant.

Preparation

Nothing to do before you arrive.

There's no preparation at home. Once you arrive, there are just a couple of things we'll ask.

On arrival

When you arrive

  1. (01)

    Gown

You may be asked to change into a gown.

  2. (02)

    Metal

Remove any jewellery or metallic items from your body, as they interfere with the X-ray image.

  3. (03)

    Pregnancy

Tell the radiographer if there is any possibility that you could be pregnant.

On the day

What happens on the day.

  1. Step 1: Before you come

Bring your referral and your Medicare card. Most requests don't need an appointment, but check with your clinic before you come in.

  2. Step 2: Your X-ray

After you've changed (if needed) and removed any metal, the radiographer will position you for each image.

  3. Step 3: Your results

Your doctor can view your images online within minutes, and once our radiologist has reported, the results go straight to them. Book a follow-up with your doctor to talk through what they mean.
